Yellowstone River Fishing Reports

Fishing has been OK on the Yellowstone recently. Weather is cool until Saturday this week but then is nice for the remainder of the forecast. Water temperatures will start increasing and we will hopefully see some BWO's soon! Midges have been hatching starting in the late morning. Keep your eyes peeled and have a few dry flies Griffith's Gnat, or Peacock Cluster, or small Parachute Adams) ready to go just in case you find some rising trout. Nymphing is the most consistent with midges, BWO nymphs, stonefly nymphs and worms. The overcast cool weather days in the forecast could make for good dry fly and streamer action. For streamers I still like mostly smaller flies like Lil' Kim's or Frozen Foxes but articulated patterns may gain more attention than one may think.

Montana fishing licenses are available for purchase online at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and at Yellow Dog Flyfishing - Fly Shop (some exceptions may apply). If you are planning to fish in the headwaters of the Gallatin River area above Taylor's Fork (approx. 1 mile upstream); be aware that most of this is in Yellowstone National Park which requires a separate fishing license and is seasonally open to fishing according to YNP regulations.
