The Bay Islands of Honduras are home to healthy populations of bonefish and permit with flats readily accessible. Tarpon, snook, barracuda, and triggerfish can be found, but most anglers travel to Honduras for their healthy permit flats and schools of willing bonefish. The majority of fishing is done from boats, but there is ample wading opportunities, especially for tailing fish. The flats in this region are comprised of hard sand, sea grass, and coral.

Having extensively traveled and fly fished the world, we are the industry’s foremost authority on destination-specific equipment, gear, and flies. Over a week of fishing in Honduras, anglers can expect shots at bonefish, permit, and potentially tarpon, barracuda, snook, and more. If you are fishing for less than five days, we recommend a bare minimum of twelve to twenty-four flies, or a more adequate selection of thirty-six flies.

  • How Many Flies? A few tarpon/snook flies. A couple large popper flies for barracuda/jacks is a good addition.
  • What Sizes and Colors? Flies should be 2/0 and can range from orange/brown, black, chartreuse, and black/purple. Snook baitfish patterns are recommended to be size 2-4 and combinations of white with red, green, brown, and yellow.
  • Important Notes: These fish can be found in the channel mouths, as well as occasionally roaming the areas around the flats. While not a prolific tarpon/snook fishery, they are caught throughout the year.
