The Missouri can be a very nice winter option but when temperatures are below zero it is certainly worth waiting. Air temperatures will be in the 40's in Craig by the Sunday so fishing should pick back up once again. Nymphing has been and will be good throughout the weekend and into next week with a relatively mild weather forecast. Use San Juan worms, Micro mays, Zebra Midges, Scuds and Sow Bugs, to catch a bunch of big fish. Winter is the time for pink beads and materials on the MO. Keep an eye out for some fish rising to midges. If you see risers you trick these trout with Griffiths Gnats, Peacock Clusters, and Mercy Midges. You could also catch fish swinging with flies such as peacock soft hackles or small dark streamers.

The Missouri River is formed with the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers near Three Forks, Montana. The blue-ribbon stretches of the river are generally considered downstream in the “tail-water” sections, which are formed below several reservoirs. The best trout fishing section of the Missouri River is the stretch of river downstream from Holter Lake that our guides fish in the spring and early summer. Closer to Bozeman is the stretch of the Missouri River around Toston Reservoir which is a great mid-summer Carp destination that also holds a few large trout seasonally.
