The lower Madison has been fishing ok as of late. Caddis hatches have been okay in the evenings but will likely get better when the temperatures come back up next week. There have been some BWO's, Midges, and some March Browns out and about, but you have to be in the right place and right time to get solid fishing. Nymphing with San Juan worms, Crayfish, Baetis, Lightning Bugs, Zebra Midges, Sowbugs/scuds have all been picking up fish. The water should be clear for the most part with the cold slowing our process of muddy waters but if it does get dirty while you are out, try a JJ Special or a Dark colored streamer to get some attention.

The lower Madison River is considered to be the Madison River from below Ennis Lake, downstream to the headwaters of the Missouri River. This section of the Madison flows through the Beartrap Wilderness Area in a narrow gorge characterized by some serious whitewater and difficult access. Once the river leaves the Beartrap Canyon, the river dramatically changes character, becoming wider with a seemingly gentle flow all the way to Three Forks, where it joins the Jefferson River and Gallatin River to form the Missouri River.
