Yellowstone River Report 10/09/2017

Oct, 09 2017

The Yellowstone fished well yesterday. This time of year its a gamble over there.  One day everything you try works, the next, little or nothing. Some of it has to do with water temps, clarity and what stretch you fish on any certain day. Fishing will be best mid day once the temps rise. Dead drifting a small Sculpin or Bugger trailed with a Baetis Nymph or similar has been as productive as anything. If that isnt what they want I would switch over to a Rubberleg as a lead fly with a worm as your dropper.  There has been some quality Dry Fly action to be had as well. Foam back eddies and long slicks can have a bunch of risers in them mid day. Baetis Duns as well as #18 Purple Hazes and Royal Wulffs have been working well. You may have to sort through a Whitefish or two in the slicks but that can be fun too. We havent heard much as far as the streamer fishing goes for a couple days now.
