Upper Madison Fishing Report 9/13/2018

Sep, 13 2018

The upper is flowing very steady around 1,110 cfs. High temperatures will be around 70 degrees the next few days with some partly cloudy conditions. Trying a flying ant pattern off the back of a Stimulator is a great way to go, especially in the afternoons. Some BWOs are starting to hatch so be prepared with small mayflies, something of the crippled emerger variety, like a BWO Sprout has worked well. Baetis should really take off the next few days. Small droppers have been doing well below hoppers if you don't want to go to a full on nymph rig. This little bit of precipitation could have moved some worms into the river so expect a San Juan to produce. Streamer fishing continues to be hit or miss, but when we get a stint of cooler weather this should induce some fish to start chasing articulated flies. For nymphing, a Pat's Rubberlegs followed by a small, size 16 or 18 mayfly imitation should keep the rods bent.
