Upper Madison Fishing Report 4/1/2018

Apr, 01 2018

The Upper Madison fished well the last few days particularly in the afternoon once the water has warmed up a bit.  Rubberlegs, Zebra Midges, Prince nymphs, worms and now eggs and fire bead nymphs are all producing fish.  The fish are starting to move into the faster riffles and are showing signs of spawning activity.  The dry fly reports have still been decent at best but we are beginning to hear about BWO sightings.  The hatch is there but the fish havent been too interested.  If you are headed up high on the river it would still be a good idea to have some Midge and BWO dries in a size 18 or 20 and possibly even skwala's in sizes 10 or 12. Streamers are producing a few fish for as well. Fish them slow and you should find a few.   We have heard of some action starting down on the lower stretches around Ennis and it has been fishing well through the higher stretches.  Flows have been very steady at around 1450 cfs.  Weather looks to be good today with a high of 45 degrees and slightly breezy, precipitation and colder weather tomorrow and tuesday.
