Upper Madison Fishing Report 12/5/2018

Dec, 05 2018

The upper stretches have been best now that ice and slushy conditions are developing lower down towards Ennis. Sub-surface fishing with nymph patterns like midges and small dips fished in slower water have been best. A few adult midges have been hatching in the early afternoon with a few fish up on the surface. Midge hatches should continue to improve in the coming weeks through late winter. Worms, rubberlegs and eggs are also still taking a few fish, but not as much as a few weeks ago. Streamer fishing has still been somewhat productive fished deep with a slow retrieve.

Fins & Feathers is a full-service Bozeman fly shop and Montana fly fishing outfitter. Upper Madison River fly fishing trips are available year-round with our Bozeman fly fishing guides.
