Upper Madison Fishing Report 10/13/2017

Oct, 13 2017

The Upper Madison has been fishing decent the last couple of days. The winds have been brutal up that way so be prepaired for that.  A number of different programs are puting fish in the net.  The mornings have been slower with the best fishing being mid afternoon to early evening.  As a result, the best way to optimise the day is to Nymph or Streamer fish the morning, switch to Dries when you start seeing some fish rise late morning and then get aggresive with Streamers again in the evening. From what we have heard the dark patterens have been doing the trick for the streamers.  Baetis or "BWO's" have been the primary hatch mid day, although Midges may be available to the Trout as well.  Emergers and Cripples can be super important on a lot of days, as well as Midge Clusters, so be ready for that scenario when it happens. Nymphing has been productive with a plethora of Stonefly Nymphs, San Juan Worms, Baetis Nymphs and Midge Pupas. The crowds are non existent with the exception of maybe Valley Gardens and between Hebgen and Quake Lakes.

Fins & Feathers is a full service fly-shop that offers many different guided fishing trip option on many of the local rivers including the Upper Madison.
