Upper Madison Fishing Report 1/9/2019

Jan, 09 2019

The few recent reports from the Upper Madison have been very positive this week. Air temps are rising and the days are starting to get a little longer. The best reports have been from Raynolds to Lyon's. Crowds have not been an issue what so ever, especially at $3 Bridge where walking or skiing in is required until Spring. A lot of programs will work this time of year. This is probably one of the only places a person can productively streamer fish right now. Most action will come with a couple of nymphs. A Goomie Worm or a Stonefly Nymph is a great choice, trailed by a Midge Pupa if you don't notice any risers. Once you start to see a few risers you'll probably want to change up to a Midge Cluster or Midge Emerger and have a little fun on top. Pay close attention to the banks as well as the most obvious spots. There can be a ton of fish in the smallest of areas sometimes.

Fins & Feathers is a full-service Bozeman fly shop and Montana fly fishing outfitter. Upper Madison River fly fishing trips are available year-round with our Bozeman fly fishing guides.
