Upper Madison Fishing Report for January 2, 2018

Upper Madison Fishing Report 1/2/2018

Jan, 02 2018

With temperatures reaching the thirty's the next few days in West Yellowstone and even warmer in Ennis, the Upper Madison should fish well. There will be plenty of snow to walk through but a pair of snow shoes or cross country skis can make that a little easier. The Midge hatches can be super productive for some Dry Fly action this time of year so be armed with an assortment of Midge Clusters, single Midge Adults and some Emergers. If nothing is willing to feed on top, Stonefly Nymphs and San Juan Worms trailed with your favorite Midge Pupa will usually work well enough that you won't be changing flies every couple of minutes. The water between Hebgen and Quake Lakes as well as Reynolds Pass and $3 Bridge are normally the most productive this time of year. If the ice isn't too bad, the sectios around Varney and 8 Mile can fish decent.

Fins & Feathers is a full-service Bozeman fly shop and Montana fly fishing outfitter. Upper Madison River fly fishing trips are available year-round with our Bozeman fly fishing guides.
