Lower Madison Fishing Report 8/9/2018

Aug, 09 2018

The Lower Madison is not the best option right now. The water has remained warm, at or above 70-degrees for some time now. This stresses the fish, increases weed growth and attracts recreational floaters. If you fish here, try the early morning when water temperatures are at their lowest. Sculpin patterns either stripped or dead-drifted with a flashy nymph should find some fish. Crayfish are always a good bet over there. For topwater fishing, tie on a hopper, caddis or Purple Haze. During the day, tubers take over the river. The boat ramps have been filled to capacity and people are being turned away or parking down the road.

Fins & Feathers is a full-service Bozeman fly shop and Montana fly fishing outfitter. Lower Madison River fly fishing trips are available year-round with our Bozeman fly fishing guides.
