Summertime full day trips on the lower Madison include early start times but still give a typical full day experience. These are great options for people with afternoon or early evening plans.

The Missouri River is one of our guide staff's "seasonal haunts" every spring as the waters around Bozeman become high and dirty during the spring runoff. We fish below Holter Dam, in between Craig and Cascade, Montana from late April through early June. This time of year on the Missouri is typically a great time for good numbers of fish in the 17-19" range with several fish well over 20" coming to net each year. Nymphing is the name of the game as post-spawn trout move into deeper feeding lanes below shallow drop-offs. The water is typically too high to wade fish, but it stays clear enough to find feeding fish even during the highest spring flows. Intermittent dry fly fishing can be found on cloudy days and the experienced streamer angler can usually find some nice fish with persistence this time of year as well - but the emphasis is typically nymph fishing likely holding water from the boat.
(Price includes use of rods, reels, flies, and terminal tackle. Waders and Boots can be rented from Cross Currents, but generally aren't needed this time of year. Non-alcoholic beverages and lunches are provided as well)
Nothing helps avoid crowds like getting on the water early during the heat of summer here in Southwest Montana. Our "Dawn Patrol" guided fly-fishing trips around Bozeman are great options for the experienced angler looking to target large trout with steamers and dries on the Yellowstone, Madison, Gallatin, or Jefferson rivers July-September.
(Price includes use of rods, reels, waders, boots, flies, and terminal tackle. We also provide non-alcoholic beverages, and lunches on Dawn Patrol Trips.)
One of our guide favorites during the dog days of summer in mid-July – mid-September is sight-casting to Carp on the upper Missouri River near Townsend, Montana.
(Price includes use of rods, reels, waders, boots, flies, and terminal tackle. We also provide non-alcoholic beverages, and lunches on Carp Trips.)
