Dam Repairs Nearly Complete on Hebgen Lake
Date: 12/06/2017
A 102-year-old dam is almost ready for its close up. Or another earthquake.
Northwestern Energy’s construction crews are nearly finished with the final phase of the roughly $40 million Hebgen Dam Rehabilitation Project, a nine-year effort in which key parts of the dam’s infrastructure has been rebuilt. The intake and the spillway are finished, and the dam’s ability to withstand an earthquake has been strengthened.
The final piece is the outflow pipe, which spits out from the bottom of the dam. It was the oldest part of the structure, and project manager BJ Cope said the replacement will be complete soon.
