Toby Swank | Bozeman Fly Fishing Guide

Toby Swank

Toby Swank is the owner/outfitter (Lic #9603) of Fins & Feathers and has been fishing the waters of Southwest Montana since 1992. Fly fishing for trout is his true passion and he spends well over 200 days a year chasing fish around the world with clients, friends, and  family too. He grew up in Texas fishing for largemouth Bass and anything else that could be caught on a Zara Spook. Fly fishing has been a part of Toby's life for over 30 years and he enjoys teaching others just as much as fishing on his own. Guiding has been a life-long dream for Toby and he is grateful to be heading into his 19th season on the oars in Southwest Montana.

Toby has very limited availability these days as his calendar typically fills-in many momths in advance.

In addition to fishing, guiding, and exploring just about every nook and cranny of Montana fly fishing, he has also traveled extensivley throughout the world. If there are fish that can be caught on the fly, chances are that he has either been there or is scheming his next sales pitch to his wife for just one more "hall pass." Some of his fly fishing travels include multiple trips to New Zealand, Belize (Turneffe & Ambergis), Cuba, Bahamas, Mexico (Chetmal, Ascension Bay, Ixtapa, Scorpion Atoll, Villahermosa), Chile (West Coast), Argentina, Bolivia (Golden Dorado), Brazil (Rio Negro & Amazon), Honduras, the Gulf Coast, British Columbia, Alberta, Alaska, the Great Lakes states, and even northern Georgia too! Hosted travel trips with Toby are always an adventure. His favorite fishing includes chasing Permit, fishing for Peacock Bass, and standing on the banks of the lower Madison River, hoping for one more rise on a quiet, winter day.

He graduated from Montana State University in 1995 with a BS in Biology and is married with 2 sons and 3 Golden Retrievers. At 47 years old, Toby is the most senior member of the Fins & Feathers fly fishing guide team and one of the most experienced fly fishing guides in Bozeman. Check out his photography website chronicling a life spent on the water and in the field as well.
