Trip Descriptions

Fins & Feathers offers guided fly fishing trips that vary in duration from half-day to several days. The trips are priced either by half-day, full day, lodging packages, or in multiple day increments. Our prices have increased in 2010, but we NOW INCLUDE FLIES. As always, we will continues to offer complimentary use of equipment such as rods, reels, wader, and boots when needed. Full Day Trips

The majority of our trips are full day trips ($450.00) to any one of the various regional fisheries. The actual length of the day depends primarily on the length of the float in river miles, but other factors include the destination, departure time, weather, and guests’ fatigue levels. A typical day will consist of 8-10 hours from when we meet at the shop to when we return.

A full day is required for any destination other than the Gallatin or Lower Madison rivers. The guides spend time at the start of each trip going over the various choices for the day and this is usually when the destination for the day is chosen. Once we arrive at the destination of the day, the guide will help get everything setup for the day and offers streamside instruction when appropriate.

The vast majority of the day is spent either floating or wading in trout-filled water, surrounded by some spectacular scenery and the great Montana outdoors. This is what everyone comes for and our guides do everything they can do to help our guests have a terrific time, learn more about the sport, improve their skills and catch some fish. In the end, it’s a pretty simple experience that is usually the highlight of many of our customer’s year. A full lunch and non-alcoholic beverages are included on all full day trips.

The day ends at the shop with everyone usually being substantially more tired than when the day began. The guide will help with the final payment at the end of the day/trip as well as help with any purchases from the fly shop. Our fly shop is well stocked with everything from gear to gifts and most clients will typically run a “tab” over the course of their trip, settling up on the last day. Contact us.

Half Day Trips

We offer half day trips ($325.00) for quick outings to the Lower Madison or Gallatin Rivers. These trips typically last no more than 5 hours total and are really best suited for experienced anglers that only have a few hours to get on the water.

Half day trips are only recommended for anglers of average or above average fitness levels as these are primarily wade fishing trips. Half day float trips on the Lower Madison are available for an additional $50 charge for up to 2 anglers, weather and water conditions permitted.

Half day trips are scheduled for either mornings or afternoons. We can not schedule half-day trips for a mid-day outing such as 10:00-3:00, as these require the guide to use a full day of his time. Upon returning to the fly shop at the end of the trip, the guide will assist with final payments and helping with anything else that you may need. Contact us.

Multiple Day Trips

Multiple day trips are simply a combination of a couple to several full half days. Guests can book consecutive days or break them over the course of a week, or the season.

Experiencing the diversity of fishing around our region really takes a few days so we encourage our guests to take a few days with a guide if there plans and budget allow. A single day is a great way to get familiar with a specific river or get the most fishing out of a crammed schedule. If you want to fish a lot of different water and see all the area has to offer, we recommend looking at 3-5 days of guided fishing.

Our general policy is to try to book the same guide for everyday of a client booking. There are times when scheduling conflicts arise and we need to make substitutions with another one of our core guides. When these issues arise, your scheduled guide will notify you on the first day of your trip to make sure that any changes are. Contact us.

Lodging & Fishing Packages

These packages are designed for customer convenience. We’ve partnered with a few lodging providers in the area that we have had great experiences with over the years. Everyone is welcome to book their accommodations separately if you prefer, this is simply a service we offer to make booking a trip easier.

Fins & Feathers of Bozeman acts a booking agent for these lodging vendors on these packages. Therefore, we take care of the reservations and the only payment made to the lodging providers is for incidentals.
